Over the past 2 month's Linfield Football Club and their fans have been dragged through the muck and had their/our good name tarnished by those whose 'Hatered' for our Club is there for all too see.
This weekend (3/5/08) will go down in the history books for generations to talk about. The last time it was completed was 114 years ago, so I'm guessing not 1 person alive yesterday have seen Linfield win the treble double. And for 7000 other Linfield fans including myself to have witnessed it is unbelieveable. David Jeffery has come into some unwanted critisicism in the past season but credit where credit is due, the big man has put himself and 27 other Linfield players (players who featured in the playing squad during this season) in the history books buy achieving the unachievable. Great managers have long past since 1894 when we last won the treble double and no doubt Great mangers will pass through the doors of Windsor Park before it is ever completed again, so this blog is a message of thanks to ALL those who made the dream possible. Hard fought victories like the 2-1 win over Armagh and 1-0 win over Institute which won us the league, games in which going into the final minutes players whould have gave up WE didn't and the reward was great. During the season we lost 2 close friends and heros of the Linfield family, one of whom was an inspiration to many players not only in the Linfield team but over the whole league when he was playing, with his goal scoring record Tommy Dickson will forever be remembered as the 'Duke of Windsor'. The player who started of our great sucsess and who was our leading goal scorer in our 2nd clean sweep season. And secondly a man who without Linfield would have still been a long way off, of where they wanted to be. David Crawford had a vision of where this club should be and he gave his all to make sure we where there. So again a big thank you to both of them. Not forgetting back room staff Bryan McLoughlin (assistant manager) Alfie Wylie (coach) Terry Hayes (Physiotherapist) Stephen Silcock (Doctor) Gary Eccles (kit manager/bootboy) Ken McKeague (trainer) Andy Kerr (team attendant) Cameron Ramsey (club doctor) lastly and certainly not least David McClure (groudsman) who had the pitch in tip top condition throughout the season until the IFA ruined it. I think want im trying to say is thank you to everyone connected with Linfield Football Club who made it possible for me to witness history on the 3rd of May 2008. (sorry for any spelling mistakes my head is still busting from last night (I know that wouldn't really make any difference))

Every trophy we win is two fingers up to our detractors.
People seem to forget about this season, we're well placed at the half-way point of our Setanta group. |
