I said it in the Bar, Kenny Irons is my pick for the job.

When DJ had to take a break due to his heart complaint he did a brilliant job. I'd have Wylie and Spike in there as well.

McLaughlin can get a P45 as well in my opinion and DJ can take that bum-chum bootboy with to.

Agreed. But, not withstanding a miracle of virgin birth proportions, he's much or less gone. So, we need a manager, who is capable of cutting it? Any manager would look at the job, trophies won lately, think to himself "I'll let them get some tube in, and apply for the job when success is not so fresh in the memory"

It is hard for us to say who would do a job until a list of interested parties emerges. There is no point in us giving a 'wish list' as it isnt going to happen in most cases.

If we're looking for a manager one thing i can say is that we shouldn't be looking in NI. Thats a backwards step straight away.

You'd have Wylie and Spike there who have vast knowledge of the league and what players are out there, and then you'd have Kenny's experience of full time football and what it entails.

A winning combination IMO.

Steve Bruce
10-12-08, 01:02 AM
Kenny is well respected in the football league in england, he would certainly have plenty of contacts and with him playing in our league he knows what kind of calibre is needed.

If i was looking for a new manager i have to say i would be looking outside NI. Surely with the kind of money Jeffrey is on part time we would be able to attract someone with managerial/coaching experience in England?

Hate to agree with the goth but Kenny Irons would be someone i would be very interested in, a wealth of knowledge from a much higher level than the irish league, and you would imagine that he would have plenty of contacts.

Geordie there are hundreda of potential Linfield managers out there, we shouldn't just stick with ex Linfield players or even ex Irish League players/managers. Once you advertise the position watch the applications roll in. You will get managers from England, Scotland, Wales etc applying.

Lawrie Sanchez started with Sligo Rovers
Sam Allardyce started with Limerick

Not only can DJ go but here is a list of players he can take wth him,

Martin and White - shouldn't be there in the first place.
Douglas and Okane - thanks for the memories but your not even useful squad players anymore
Maccers - thanks for the memories but your just taking the piss
Curran - full time, wise up.
Kearney - sorry but your never fit.
Ferguson, Murphy and Bailie - end of the season, thanks for the memories but it's time to move on and rebuild for the future.

Players we have capable of building a team around.
Garret
Gault
Mulgrew
Carville
Billy Joe Burns

Well done Davey, the rebuilding job is going well. More like a disintergration job. Given the players you signed during the summer how can you be trusted to sign at least 6 players who are capable of being first choice next season?

We are in a fucked up situation, but if we get rid now, who comes in mid season and how much is the dj pay off?

Atticus
10-12-08, 10:10 AM
If we lose another four games this season - and it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we'll lose those games before the New Year - we'll have lost as many games THIS SEASON as we have done since Catalyst Day.

That's as many games in half a season than in the three and a bit previous seasons.

Spike & Wylie to take over the reins would be my choice!

I'd say at this current time the payoff would be worth it in comparison to what we will lose in lost revenue with failing to retain the league & qualify for the CL.

If he's sacked for gross misconduct or breach of contract, there wouldn't be any pay-off.

ILFHasbeen
10-12-08, 11:04 AM
When we were saying last year where he was going wrong, I can't imagine that any of us honestly thought that it would get as bad as this so quickly. I certainly didn't.

The Linfield team last night offered absolutely nothing. How many times did we get to the line and put in a cross?

How many shots did T Murphy have to save?

How many times did we put together more than four consequtive passes?

How many balls did we play which went straight to a Glenavon player?

How many times did Mannus hoof the ball up the middle, only for it to hang in the air, making it simple for the Glenavon centre half to head away each time?

How many times did either a defender or mid fielder get the ball, only to see that all our players were marked and he eventually held onto it until disposessed?

At this rate I honestly can't see us winning another match this year. We might score the odd wonder goal (nearly did with Carville hitting the bar last night) but that will be the only 'highlight' for us for the rest of the year.

Sad state of affairs for any Linfield fan.

He has to go now. I say give Spike the job, now, PT until the end of the season. Let him make his own transfers in January and bring in his own backroom team. If he shows promise from now til then, give him a FT contract. I dont think we should be letting DJ spend any more money

I think it would be wrong to give Spike money to spend and then have him on a short term contract. We're in a position we haven't been in for 10 years in that we have money to spend, DJ's past transfer records should preclude him from getting it. It should be given to someone to undertake an 18 month + job, it would be ridiculous to let someone bring in players for big money in January then have a new manager come in at the end of the season with no money to spend and left with players he may not rate.

He's put his neck on the line by putting people on the transfer list and hopefully (we can pray) he does bring in some good new players that we desperatley need. If he doesn't succeed by May, then sorry, but the record doesn't hold forever.

Some people say he is arrogant and use that as part of their defence to get rid of the manager. I prefer to consentrate on our results and league position. I accept the results have been hit and miss. But have we been able to play the same team two games in a row at any point this season. We are now top of the league and if we can stay there until the end of the season will all the boo boys still want him out or will they join in with DAVY, BIG DAVY when the crowd signs his name. Honest answers. Do you want a manager that could go on to win 4 then 5 in a row or do you want to venture into the unknown of a new manager?

Jonesy
26-01-09, 07:45 PM
I think theres plenty of new managers who could do the same job but without the arrogance. But maybe dj will learn from his mistakes and go on to better things with linfield. He has to take the rough with the smooth an come the end of season he needs to show improvement. The half term report says must try harder and only when the results come out in May will we know. Second is nothing. Game on!
